HOME OFFICE PUBLISHES ANNUAL REPORT 2004-2005 (20.06.05)

The Home Office published its Annual Report 2004-2005 on 20 June. Section 3 of the report sets out the progress made over the last year against the department's strategic objectives, including countering terrorism and tackling serious organised crime.

NISCC BRIEFING ON TARGETED TROJAN EMAIL ATTACKS (16.06.05)

The National Infrastructure Security Co-ordination Centre (NISCC), which works to protect the UK's essential services and systems from electronic attack, issued a briefing on 16 June concerning a series of "Trojan" email attacks targeted at UK government and companies. The attackers' aim appears to be covert gathering and transmitting of commercially or economically valuable information. The NISCC Briefing provides detection and protective advice. (PDF file).

The UK is a priority espionage target for many foreign intelligence services. Espionage activity against UK interests takes place overseas as well as in the UK. TERRORISM AND COMMUNITY RELATIONS: GOVERNMENT RESPONSE (09.06.05)

The Government published its response to the conclusions of the Home Affairs Committee (HAC) in their sixth report on terrorism and community relations on 9 June. The HAC's report looked at developments since 9/11, including terrorism-related incidents at home and abroad, as well as the anti-terrorism powers created by recent legislation and the way in which they have been used.

FOREIGN POLICY ASPECTS OF THE WAR AGAINST TERRORISM: GOVERNMENT RESPONSE (08.06.05)

The Government published its response to the recommendations of the Foreign Affairs Committee (FAC) in their sixth report on the foreign policy aspects of the war against terrorism on 8 June. The FAC's report addressed a number of key challenges, including the threat from international terrorism and the dangers of weapons proliferation.
