The Prime Minister has approved the interim appointment of William Ehrman as Chairman of the Joint Intelligence Committee. He succeeds John Scarlett and will take up his position in August. The Prime Minister told the House of Commons on 20 July that the Cabinet Office will make a permanent appointment in 2005, based on the criteria set out in Lord Butler's recent report.
