In response to the Newton Committee's review of the Anti-Terrorism,
Crime and Security Act 2001, published on 18 December, the Home Secretary, David Blunkett, said: "The Anti-terrorism Crime and Security
Act 2001 has improved our ability to fight crime and terrorism. I look forward to sensible and informed debate so that we can continue to
build on this foundation whilst recognising the need for appropriate safeguards."
