This website is an important element of the Service's "openness policy". This policy, agreed by the Prime Minister and Home Secretary back in 1992, aims to improve public understanding of our role. The policy is, however, carefully controlled - we do not release any information which might compromise our sources and methods, as well as the security of our staff and agents.
Significantly expanded in April 2004, our website now contributes further to the Government's counter-terrorist strategy by describing the threats to national security in more detail and making our protective security advice available to a much wider audience. The website serves another important role in enabling members of the public to send us information they think could help with our work (see "How you can help").
We encourage other websites to link to our site and you do not require permission to do so. It is useful to know who is linking to us, however, and we would appreciate it if you could send us a quick message on our Contact Us page once you have added your link.
The Arabic and Urdu sections contain selected information about the role and work of the Security Service and its oversight mechanisms. "Myths and Misunderstandings" about the Service are also available, along with details of the employment opportunities for Arabic and Urdu speakers. In addition, members of the public are encouraged to send us any information they think could help with our work. We plan to add further language options in the future.
