GLOBAL TERRORISM: ARE WE MEETING THE CHALLENGE? (16.10.03)

The Director General of the Security Service, Eliza Manningham-Buller, delivered the James Smart lecture at the City of London Police Headquarters on 16 October. In her speech, Ms Manningham-Buller emphasised the importance of public communication as part of the Service's counter-terrorist strategy. She also talked about the assimilation and use of terrorist intelligence and the important work taking place to disseminate advice on protection.

UK BACKS INTERNATIONAL INITIATIVE TO HELP BEAT INTERNET HACKERS (09.10.03)

The UK is backing a major international initiative designed to help beat internet hackers, it was announced on 9 October. The National Infrastructure Security Co-ordination (NISCC) is supporting key research undertaken by the SysAdmin, Audit, Network, Security (SANS) institute in Washington - and its partners - which each year identifies the Top 20 internet security weaknesses that are most often exploited.
