The environment here is fast paced, you will work closely with end users and deal with some of the most advanced technology around. Due to the flexible and dynamic nature of the engineering service we provide at MI5, our software engineers have the chance to regularly move between projects involving different challenges and technologies. We greatly encourage innovation and will invest in the continual development of your technical skills throughout your career.

Project and Programme Management

Our IT project and programme managers are responsible for bespoke solutions that contribute significantly to the success of MI5. We are often searching for forward thinking individuals to work within our infrastructure and application delivery areas.

These are vital and challenging roles where, depending on your experience level, you will manage small to large sized projects to successfully lead business critical initiatives and achieve positive outcomes. Our project and programme managers all work closely with stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring they are always up to date with developments. Leading by example, they strive to ensure expectations are exceeded within a fascinating and demanding environment.

MI5’s technology set is understandably complex and diverse. Wherever your architectural experience lies, putting it to use here will present you with a fascinating and demanding new challenge. Our experienced and highly valued architecture community includes enterprise, infrastructure, and application architects who help define and deliver the future of MI5 technology.

Our enterprise architects develop technology strategy and translate this into defined architectural models, influencing and persuading people at the highest levels of MI5. We rely upon our application architects to understand our diverse application environment, providing designs and roadmaps to build and evolve systems that will increase value to end users. Infrastructure architects are committed to ensuring our infrastructure is aligned to MI5, developing strategies, standards and policies, and driving technological convergence.

IT Services Management and Operations

Our large IT Services Management and Operations department offers a wide range of role opportunities. To name just a few we often have opportunities arising within incident, problem and change management, data centre services, service delivery and service transition. We also regularly look for skilled people managers who can provide direction and support for our busy, hands-on technical teams.

These teams are at the heart of MI5 business, communicating with other delivery teams, key stakeholders and often the end users themselves to understand the unique needs of our organisation, and ensure the professional delivery of IT services to the entire MI5 community. Across all these areas we require individuals with a passion for top quality customer service and the resilience to work in challenging and pressurised environments.

IT Services Support

At MI5 our IT Services Support department encompasses many areas, such as the service desk, incident and problem management, operational response, the communications centre and estate wide MI5 Monitoring. Whether you are experienced in IT service support and looking for new opportunities, or at the start of a new IT career path with a passion for technology, our aim is to nurture the development of powerful IT careers that will play a part in keeping the country safe.

For instance, our IT support officers play a significant part in supporting a range of leading-edge initiatives and critical applications in our operations control centre. They diagnose and solve various IT issues, enjoying plenty of responsibility. Alternatively our service desk analysts are the first port of call for customer incidents and requests. Taking calls from colleagues across the whole of MI5 they solve issues personally when they can, or pass them on when necessary. In all these roles we look for enthusiastic, motivated people who are good communicators and willing to learn new skills.

Whatever area you join, you would be working with dedicated, like-minded people to respond to issues being experienced by your MI5 colleagues within tight business deadlines. We have several structured development plans that can be tailored depending on your role, career aspirations and level of technical expertise upon joining us.
