Apprenticeships at MI5

Published date: 03 Feb 2020

To mark National Apprenticeship Week, which takes place from 3 - 9 February 2020, we are highlighting the opportunities available for apprenticeships in MI5 to learn and apply new skills whilst helping to keep the country safe.

This year's National Apprenticeship Week theme is 'Look Beyond' - encouraging people to explore opportunities outside of the normal routes to employment, and celebrate the value that apprentices can bring to the workplace. Modern apprenticeships can range from NVQs to Masters Degrees.

Have you considered an apprenticeship with MI5?

MI5 has been training apprentices since 2012, first as part of a tri-agency programme with SIS and GCHQ, and more recently within specific business areas in MI5. As our technical capabilities grow, so does the need for us to bring ambitious, technically-minded people into our workforce. Apprenticeships help us meet this need, and our current and previous apprenticeship schemes have been hugely successful.

A current apprentice on the Digital and Technology Solutions apprenticeship scheme said:

"Being part of the work that MI5 does is inspiring, and the range and depth of knowledge within the organisation has been extremely impressive"

What opportunities are available?

Last week, MI5 launched its first Cyber Apprenticeship Scheme, in which successful applicants will work alongside world-leading Cyber Security professional to protect the public from harm by dealing with Cyber threats. We are looking for dynamic people with an interest in technology, solving problems, and a thirst for learning new skills. Full details of this apprenticeship opportunity can be found here.

Further apprenticeship opportunities will be advertised here. The Infrastructure Engineer apprenticeship scheme will go live in April 2020, and the Software Engineer apprenticeship scheme will go live in September 2020.
