Ziamani sentenced for preparing terrorist acts

A teenager convicted of engaging in conduct in preparation of terrorist acts has been sentenced to 22 years in prison at the Old Bailey today.

Brusthom Ziamani, 19, from south east London, was arrested on 19 August last year following a joint MI5 and police operation.

When officers from the Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command (SO15) arrested him in the street leaving an address in east London he was found to be carrying a rucksack with a 12-inch knife and hammer inside.

During the trial, the court heard Ziamani had told a former girlfriend that he intended to attack and kill soldiers.

The jury heard Ziamani had written a letter found at his address after his arrest which glorified the murder of Lee Rigby and said "we should do a 9/11, 7/7 and a Woolwich all in one day".

Ziamani was convicted on 19 February but sentencing was adjourned until today.
