MI5 pays tribute to D-Day veterans

Published date: 05 Jun 2019

Our Director General, Andrew Parker, is proud to be attending the commemorations in Portsmouth for the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings today, along with the heads of SIS and GCHQ. All of us at MI5 pay tribute to the courage and heroism of the Allied Forces involved in D-Day, and to all those who contributed to its ultimate success. For our part, MI5 ran the complex operation to deceive the German High Command into believing the real invasion was planned in the Calais area. It proved highly successful, causing two armoured divisions and 19 infantry divisions to be kept there while the Allies landed in Normandy. You can read the story here.
