MI5's Cyber Technical Analysts play a vital role in investigations against hostile actors conducting cyber espionage against the UK. You will carry out complex technical analysis, develop new capabilities and perform a unique technical investigator role in this varied and pivotal role.
Covert Technical Operations Specialists take the lead in deploying a wide range of advanced MI5 technical capability to enable intelligence collection in fast paced and high profile investigations. You will play a key role in progressing investigations helping to develop methods that allow us access to the computers and devices used by terrorist groups that pose a serious threat to national security.

Do you want to join an apprenticeship like no other? Working with MI5, SIS and GCHQ you’ll gain a unique insight into a world that you won’t find on any university course and will have the opportunity to learn about – and work with – some of the world’s most cutting edge technologies that sit at the heart of British intelligence.
During the two year scheme you’ll gain a Foundation Degree In Communications, Security and Engineering and a Level 4 Diploma in IT, Software, Web and Telecommunications Competence. Based primarily at GCHQ in Cheltenham, two thirds of your first year will be classroom-based training. In your second year, you’ll spend about a third of your time in the classroom and the rest doing placements in MI5, SIS or GCHQ.

We’re offering undergraduates studying a STEM-related degree the unique opportunity to undertake paid work experience at MI5. Our summer placements will give you an exciting opportunity to work in a unique and challenging environment where technology plays a crucial and increasingly strategic role. You could be placed in our corporate IT department or our department responsible for covert technical operations. Wherever you’re placed, you’ll be offered a range of opportunities to develop your skills on real projects.
